FAQ

When is the Crown City Classic?
We will be hosting the 12K, 5K, and Kids 1/2 Mile run in Coronado on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023.

What are the race distances?
12K (7.4 mile run), 5K (3.1 mile run), and Crown City Kids Half Mile

Why the 12K Distance?
A 12K is 7.4 miles, a distance all patriotic runners achieve on Independence Day! Two other “classic” running events in America are also 12K’s, Bloomsday and Bay to Breakers. Never run a 12K? Great news, you will achieve a personal best after finishing this event!

Is this Coronado’s official Independence Day Run?

Yes! The Crown City Classic is Coronado’s official Independence Day Run. 2023 marks the 50th year of this annual race and has a great tradition of running to celebrate the 4th of July in Coronado – “the Crown City”.

Can I volunteer?
If you’re interested in volunteering, please email [email protected] to express your interest or use the volunteer registration link here. We have opportunities for volunteering at packet pick up prior to race day as well as race day itself. Join in the fun and excitement of the 50th running of the Crown City Classic by becoming a volunteer!

What is the race cancellation policy?
Weather, emergencies, or other issues of public safety may cause cancellation or postponement of the Event(s), outside of the control of event management. In the instance of an unforeseen event cancellation, a majority of event expenses have already incurred. Should such event cancellation or postponement occur, registered participants can defer to the next year free of charge. Refund requests can be given on a case-by-case basis.

Specific protocol for allocating participant registration fees would be communicated to participants in the case of an event cancellation. Communication would specify participant response time within a limited time window following the cancellation to allow for adequate management action.
