FAQ
When is the Crown City Classic?
We will be hosting the 12K, 5K, and Kids 1/2 Mile run in Coronado on Thursday, July 4th, 2024.
What are the race distances?
12K (7.4 mile run), 5K (3.1 mile run), and Crown City Kids Half Mile.
Why the 12K Distance?
A 12K is 7.4 miles, a distance all patriotic runners achieve on Independence Day! Two other “classic” running events in America are also 12K’s, Bloomsday and Bay to Breakers. Never run a 12K? Great news, you will achieve a personal best after finishing this event!
Is this Coronado’s official Independence Day Run?
Yes! The Crown City Classic is Coronado’s official Independence Day Run. 2024 marks the 51st year of this annual race and has a great tradition of running to celebrate the 4th of July in Coronado – “the Crown City”.
What is Team Stars and Team Stripes, and do I have to participate?
During the event registration process, each participant has the opportunity to choose which team they want to be a part of—Team Stars or Team Stripes. It’s a fun and friendly way to add a team spirit dynamic to the race experience. At the race’s end, we’ll reveal the team with the most participants and the fastest team based on average times. It’s a chance for some friendly competition and camaraderie among the participants.
As an added bonus, all runners will have the option to pre-purchase exclusive “Team Stripes” or “Team Stars” jerseys in our race store. These jerseys not only make for a stylish patriotic keepsake but also allow participants to proudly represent their chosen team during the event.
To sweeten the deal, the 1st Male and 1st Female winners in both the 5K and 12K races, adorned in their respective team jerseys, will receive an extra reward of $100 in cash at the Awards Ceremony in Tidelands Park. So, while participation is not mandatory, joining Team Stars or Team Stripes adds an extra layer of fun and competition to your race experience.
Can I volunteer?
If you’re interested in volunteering, please email [email protected] to express your interest or use the volunteer registration link here. We have opportunities for volunteering at packet pick up prior to race day as well as race day itself. Join in the fun and excitement of the Crown City Classic by becoming a volunteer!
Is there a designated Beer Garden at the event?
No, there isn’t a designated beer garden at the event. However, you’re free to enjoy the July 4th Parade and indulge in alcoholic beverages anywhere on the public streets of Coronado.
What is the 5K/12K course time limit?
The 5K course will have a 90 minute time limit. 12K runners/walkers are required to maintain 14 minute/mile or faster pace to comply with roads reopening schedule. Additionally, there will be an option for 12K walkers to start at 6:40 AM.
Do you have a refund policy?
All entry fees are NON-REFUNDABLE, no exceptions. Once we receive and accept your entry, you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate. You may transfer your entry to another event, person or year for $15. Contact us at [email protected] for instructions on how to transfer your registration to another runner.
What is the race cancellation policy?
Weather, emergencies, or other issues of public safety may cause cancellation or postponement of the Event(s), outside of the control of event management. In the instance of an unforeseen event cancellation, a majority of event expenses have already incurred. Should such event cancellation or postponement occur, registered participants can defer to the next year free of charge.
Specific protocol for allocating participant registration fees would be communicated to participants in the case of an event cancellation. Communication would specify participant response time within a limited time window following the cancellation to allow for adequate management action.
When will I get my virtual package?
The virtual leaderboard is open! You can submit results anytime between today and July 7. Virtual run packets are being mailed on Monday, July 8th.
